Around Hotel 96

Hiking above Sormiou and Morgiou

Just 2 km from the hotel, you’ll find the Morgiou parking area, which is the starting point of hiking trails leading to the calanques of Sormiou and Morgiou!

From the parking lot, a 45-minute walk takes you to the calanque of Sormiou. You can follow a beautiful loop via the Morgiou plateau to explore the eastern side of the calanques. On a clear day, you can even see as far as Madrague des Lecques!

Without going all the way down to the calanques, you can also enjoy a short loop trail on the heights. The fire trail linking the Sormiou and Morgiou passes offers stunning views over the calanques massif on one side and the city of Marseille on the other. A gentle walk, perfect for reflection—especially in the early morning when the atmosphere is calm and the sky takes on poetic colors.

For the more athletic, it’s possible to hike down into the calanques and even reach Sugiton or Marseilleveyre. In our lounge, you’ll find a large collection of books and guides to browse, and the IGN Calanques map is available for purchase in our shop. The Mes Calanques app can also help you plan.

Lunch on the terrace at Chez Zé

Back at the Morgiou parking area, you’re right next to one of the locals’ favorite restaurants, a true Marseille institution. Chez Zé serves wood-fired pizzas and Provençal specialties in a very friendly setting. A great spot to enjoy lunch on the terrace before heading back for a nap or a swim at the hotel.

Take a dip at the beach

Bain des Dames, in Montredon, is a great spot for a swim in the sea—just 15 minutes by bike from the hotel. Right next door, l’Abricotier and les Sablettes (accessible by stairs) are sandy beaches suitable for families with children.

Visit the MAC and the Cité Radieuse

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) is located in the Bonneveine district, between the hotel and the beaches. It’s just a 5-minute bike ride from the hotel.

For a fully artistic day, you can combine your visit to the MAC with a tour of Le Corbusier’s Cité Radieuse, just 2 km away.

See a match at the Vélodrome

Planning your stay at Hotel 96 around an event at the Vélodrome? Or just keen to visit this iconic stadium during your Marseille trip? From the hotel, take bus lines 22 or 23—both stop within 400 meters and take you straight to the stadium in about 20 minutes (traffic permitting).

Two-day hike on the GR98-51 from Cassis to Marseille

The GR98-51 trail from Cassis to Marseille is a breathtaking trek through the calanques, offering stunning sea and mountain views. It can be done over two days, with a stopover at Hotel 96. After exiting the national park, just past the Morgiou pass, it’s a 2 km walk or bus ride to reach the hotel.
